When I Started:
Jul, 2006
How I Started:
About a year ago, I was poking around on this site called thepumpingstation.com-- I know, terrible name, sounds like something for increasing penis size or something. Anyway, it had three workout routines on it. I read the beginner one and thought, I could do that. And I did, for 2 months. To my amazement I actually started to see my body changing. Got a buddy from work to join me 2 nights a week. I was doing what I though were really light weights while he looked like he was going to burst a blood vessel. I have to admit that got me hooked that I was lifting something that someone else thought was a lot. I should say that now 6 months later this guy now kicks my butt on what he can lift. I console myself saying it's because he's 10 years younger than me ;-). That's okay though, I'm in it for me now. Not to compete with anyone else.
Why I Love It:
I've always wanted to have a muscular lean body, but figured it was just too late now that I'm over forty. But the progress I've made to date makes me think I still have time to have that killer body I've always wanted.
How I Stay Motivated:
I look at my progress pictures. It's easy for me to get discouraged when I look at myself in the mirror, or when I see the scale going in the wrong direction. But keeping track of progress through pictures and stats really helps. Reading fitness articles also helps keep me motivated when I'm starting to lose steam. I am really trying hard to set myself up for success by focusing on slow and steady progress.
BB Accomplishments:
Staying with it after those first two months. Keeping off the bodyfat lost without any overly rigid dieting. I'm watching what I eat, but I am not on a diet!
GOING BACK TO CALI... there after May 2nd... Woo Hoo! On my journey to a KILLER body... one step at a time!
Goal (Long):
This time I'm taking the slow approach-- mostly because it's the only one that seems to work for me.
Started at 191 lbs and 21% body fat. So I set a goal of reducing my overall weight by 10 lbs and reducing my body fat percentage by 10 percentage points by the end of 2007. And it's working!
I have a chart on taped up to the inside of my bathroom cabinet with my goals for each month in terms of weight and body fat based on a straighline formula over 13 months.
Since January of 2007 I've gone from 191 lbs to 183 and my body fat has gone from 21% to 18%.
It's definitely slow going, but with work and other commitments it's the one that I can seem to stick to. In fact I'm actually exceeding my monthly goals consistently and keeping the gains (and losses) from month to month.
This time I will have that killer body I've ALWAYS wanted. May take a few years, but I'm willing to put in the time.
Wrapping Up Week TwoLost four pounds so far, four more to go. I think the next two weeks might start to get a little harder.
Woke up monday at 5:45 to go to the gym and realized I was just too sick to work out. My cold was so bad, I didn't go to work Monday or Tuesday. Doesn't take a...
