When I Started:
Sep, 2004
How I Started:
I decided that when I turning 40 wasn't the end, but a beginning. I want to be happy/proud of who I am and an inspiration to my three young sons.
Why I Love It:
i love the pump, the adrenaline rush, and the results
How I Stay Motivated:
I try to keep my goals in mind. Guys who are also in their 40's but work hard and defy age, gravity, social norms and anything negative that comes their way to transform themselves into lean mean machines are an inspiration.

life's too short for anything less.
Never lose sight of the prize!
C5 goals: weight 188; biceps 16"; bf% to 7%. i've got a december birthday--would like to ring in the new year with a six pack!!
Goal (Long):
I want to transform my body, build muscle, reduce fat to single digits and maitain a healthy lifestyle. It was only 4 years ago that I tipped the scales at 273 pounds. Not earth shattering, but when it's only fat, not something inspiring or self defining. I looked at my 3 young sons and decided I wanted to be around to see all of the great milestones in their lives. I also wanted to balance being a moral role model with being a healthy role model. I decided I wasn't chained to 40" waist pants and XXL shirts and set off on a weight loss and muscle building program. I haven't reached my ultimate goal, but I've lost 76 pounds (weigh just less than 200 now) and eat healthy and exercise regularly. I've got a ways to go, but the light at the end of the tunnel burns pretty bright
What do you think about people who "grunt" loudly while working out? Do you do it?
i didn't think I did until 1 day there was a pause in my WO tunes and I heard myself grunt. LOL.luckily i WO alone inmy basement

Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
No
Why or why not?
don't really have anyone in my family or circle who's interested in the topic, other than my sons. they more than make up for everyone else's ambivalence with their enthusiasm and admiration. but i know a big part of it is unconditional love, but that's ok, too. The lack of interest is really why I look to bodyspace --it's a great community with the same mind set and people who will provide the validation and motivation to keep you working hard. it can get a little disheartnening when you you don't even get credit for what you feel are pretty hard earned gains, so a simple "great progress, bro!" goes a long way. our minds and bodies are needy in similar ways. don't really have anyone in my family or circle who's interested in the topic, other than my sons. they more than make up for everyone else's ambivalence with their enthusiasm and admiration. but i kn...more

What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
chart your progress. giving yourself credit for the little gains keeps you motivated. plus having a big picture goal helps. don't be shy about dreaming big.
Appreciate the comments. You've come a long way since 273!!! Nice job. Now you knoe ANYTHING is possible. Train regularly, eat right, and the rest falls right in place.
thanks manfred man! i appreciate the compliments! ;) i try to maintain 3-4 days/week of cardio for 30 minutes at low intensity - although i've not been keeping up w/ that lately. i also mix in some yoga in small amounts, which definitely helps me to stay lean.
Thanks, been at it hard, been thinking about trying to bulk up, but it hard to commit to it when I have worked so hard to lean out. You are getting cut
I take half redline and a whole pump7 preworkout, but besides that Its all food. I eat every 2 1/2 hours and consume about 400-500 grams of protien a day. "BABIES GOT TO EAT TO GROW."
Great work!! I am planning on competing in March... we don't know the results of the model contest until January or so... so just keeping my fingers crossed!

trying to become a machine..The weirdest shits happening to me man..Im now working with a girl at my local gym, we never spoke for over 2 montehs, then we crossed pathes one day and we exhanged info , now we are close friends and im training her, she told me I was intimidating so she wouldnt come near me..how could someone fix that..haha..
Thanks for the comment! Well the cell tech i found to find fast results when i first started to take it, but as of right now i seem to be just be maintaining. At first i added about 7 pounds on pretty fast. But eating clean and sticking with the abs routine gets ya shreaded! I am excited to see results when i start my cardio in the spring. Take care
Brian,

LOL! I wish! I use whey and casein. Multi, Some creatine and Lipo 6x when cutting. I am just very strict with my diet. I started cycling my carbohydrates and it worked great! Zero energy though! Thanks for the kind words!
