I've done weight training on/off for a number of years. I used to work out so that I could eat whatever I wanted, but now I have to monitor my eating habits and work out b/c @ 40+ the metabolism changes. In March 07 shortly after I began dating a body builder I felt self conscience and wanted to improve my overall figure. However, I got serious when I began working with a trainer Nov. '07 b/c shaping up is now a priority.
Why I Love It:
I like the feeling I get when I have trained hard. It's also a great stress reducer.
How I Stay Motivated:
I like the attention and feeling a sense of accomplishment. My trainer is also inspirational. Additionally, this website is terrific b/c there are several women over forty with fabulous figures.
BB Accomplishments:
Eating clean since Nov. 2007. Getting weight down within a manageable range. Wearing a bikini this summer & looking good because the dimples are gone:)Buying a pair of size 6 pants for the first time in my life--seems like I was always a 12.

I was working out, but eating whatever so the workouts only minimized the damage.
I ultimately want to stay fit. It is my hope to encourage & motivate others to live a heathy lifestyle. My new goal is to gain lean muscle mass in upper body area and widen the v-taper.
I'm still riding the high of all the friends and family support during the last phase of competition prep. A few friends came for the pre judging and said I had the best glutes (LOL). It was heart warming to hear that many of them were inspired to revisit their fitness goals. In fact...
There absolutely is a way to do it without putting on alot of bodyfat. Maybe it's slower, but that is the route that I am taking. I do not want to yo-yo. I like making changes and improving my conditioning over time.
Sorry to hear about your 'intestinal discomfort'--hope that clears up very soon. I read alot about contest rebound an thought there is no way I am putting on 20-30 pounds, only to have to get it off, again. Been there are I don't want to go back!
