I was a gymnast and dancer growing up, and a college-level cheerleader. I was blessed to have some really knowlegable coaches who emphasized the importance of conditioning for strength, performance, and injury prevention.
Why I Love It:
I love the high I get from challenging myself in the gym. There's no greater feeling than leaving the gym, knowing that I gave a workout everything I had!
I just finished my first fitness competition season and it was them most AMAZING experience! I really learned to conquer any and all self doubt. Each day I swore I had no idea how I was going to make it through the next workout, yet somehow I'd manage to leave the gym proving myself wrong once again...eventually those feelings of strength and empowerment chased all negativity away, and I'm feeling stronger, and more empowered than ever!
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm very fortunate to have a family who embraces the same healthy lifestyle I do. They are my support system, as I am theirs!
My father, a 60-year old diabetic just recently lost 50 lbs (and there's more to come!) He runs up to 5 miles a day!
My mother has a degenerative disc disease in her back. She was bed-ridden for an entire year when I was in 7th grade because it was so bad. Thanks to proper nutrition, advancements in technology (bosu ball, free motion machines, elliptical trainer, etc) she trains 1 1/2 hours every day (EVEN ON CHRISTMAS!)
My sister faught a long, hard battle with anorexia for many of her teenage years. She's now 27, married to the greatest husband in the world, has a masters degree from Florida State, a job she totally kicks ass at, and most importantly, she's finally starting to see herself as the beautiful, loving, compassionate person we've known all along =o)
My brother-in-law is a trainer at Lifestyle Family Fitness. He's taken his passion for fitness and helped so many of his clients change the way they look and feel about themselves. He and my sister are a constant source of love and encouragement.
I'm very competitive in nature. On days when I feel sore and can't get out of bed, or during training when my biceps are burning like hell and I feel like I can't push it any farther, I remember that there's ALWAYS someone else out there training for the same thing I am...and when it comes to EFFORT, I won't settle for 2nd best.
