When I Started:
May, 2003
How I Started:
I started lifting weights as part of my gymnastics conditioning program. I got such great results that I now also lift in the off-season, to maintain my conditioning and to improve my overall level of fitness.
Why I Love It:
I enjoy lifting because it's really improved my gymnastic performance, I can feel a definite improvement in my overall strength and power. I can do strength moves like presses and planches so much more easily, I can't help wanting to show off to people what I can do now.
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm motivated by visualizing what I want to accomplish and by seeing myself make more and more progress every day. People have told me that my arms put even some guys arms to shame, now that's motivation!
BB Accomplishments:
I hold my high school's record for the most push-ups (114) and pull-ups (16) done by a girl.

If you stick a gymnast on a football field for football practice, after an hour, she'd come back a little bruised. If you stick a football player on a beam for gymnastics practice, he'd be dead before the hour was up.

I was pretty skinny in high school.
This was taken a few months ago, my muscles are a lot more visible now. It's funny to see a picture of me like this, I sorta feel like the Incredible She-Hulk- you wouldn't like me when I'm angry!! Grrrr! ;)
I want to increase my strength and improve my conditioning for gymnastics.
Goal (Long):
My goal for this semester is to continue to increase my physical strength and power but also to really improve my stamina and endurance. I want to finish the routine with as much energy as I started it with. My long term goal is still to maintain a strong fit physique even after I'm no longer competing in gymnastics. Competing in fitness maybe in my future, if gymnasts like Mia Finnegan and Natalie Hunt can do it, then so can I!
My workout program is pretty intense. I generally train for gymnastics 4-5 days a week, I do a lot of bodyweight exercises in my training sessions. My usual regimen consists of something like 120 push-ups (or 30 handstand push-ups), 400+ sit-ups/V-sits/oblique crunches, 50 leg raises (to...

You plan on getting the record for your college push and pulls also? That so cool you do that. Was that full pull ups, no help? How your new workout plan been going? Do you have a trainer from the college helping you with it?
Things are great Jamie...training hard and I got a new job, now I'll be able to compete and get new pics. So, gettin' ready to wow them on those bars this season, eh?!
You crazy gymansts have inspired me to do a new ab exercise during my core workout...hanging on the pullup bar then lifting legs all the way up almost to a handstand. They're SO fun to do, and they hit those abs HARD!!!
Last day, bench..140x17reps. But Billy, my main competition, nailed 22 at his weight(185) and he got 64reps for leg press! However, because of my ridculous leg press performance I won the overall by 4 points..I think. I won't know for sure till Sunday:)
Today was jumprope, and I won w/ extreme prejudece, lol! Beat next best time by 1:22...I'm not the biggest or baddest, but I'm still an athlete, by golly!! Only down by 4 points, next two events are definately my best..
Event practice went well(leg press150x60 240X30, bench145X15) I wanted to CRY;0..but I will BRING IT come Monday!!! Speaking of bringing it on, Nastia Liukin on the beam & Shawn Johnson's floor exercise last night..oh my!
Along with my holds, I have been incorporating PNF stretches, what do ya think of PNF..?? Because in all honesty I can't do the holds for 30 sec.yet ;) but I am doing it for about 15 sec, it's just so painful... uggg, the burn!!
Stuck it!!! Spine tingling and sweat was flowing off of me! With enormous pressure on, Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson came through in the clutch for gold/silver. Awesome!! ..... Are you going to compete at the next gymnastic world championships? Best regards, Scott
