I started lifting in high school like everyone else. But I stopped for many years after graduate school. Marriage, career, children... it all took priority. It wasn't until my late 30's, when my life became more settled, that I started lifting again and I started competing as a strength athlete only a few years ago.
Why I Love It:
In my very stressful job, working out keeps me focused. Hitting the gym is better than going to a psychiatrist or taking Lexipro!
Oh! And if I can do it, anyone can do it! I have the worst schedule of anyone I know!
How I Stay Motivated:
I am addicted! I love feeling strong, I love the stares at restaurants, I love getting big. It is a rush to be able to do things that average people can't do, like lifting cars or running with 290 pounds in each hand!
BB Accomplishments:
Never competed as a BB! At this point, I know I will never be really cut or even look like a bodybuilder. But there is nothing but the love; I have plenty of props for my BB brothers.
I still want to be the LW Masters Nationals Champion, but I have to rehab my shoulder first.
Goal (Long):
I went to the NAS Strongman National Championships in Kansas, and came in second. I injured my shoulder and came back and I had it repaired on October 23, 2007. I am now going to rehab my shoulder and see what heights I can reach in 2008. I think this is my year!
Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
Yes
Why or why not?
I think that it is important to have my friends and family know that I have a contest planned and give me support and encouragement. It is especially important that my wife know about contests so that she can forgive my many mood swings.I think that it is important to have my friends and family know that I have a contest planned and give me support and encouragement. (Eph 3:12) "In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
The Holy Spirit gives us boldness and confidence after we have believed in Jesus Christ to be able to pray and make requests to God without fear. "
Okay, so what I learned this morning is that FEAR...
Hey MS. I was wondering if you could give me a few tips, because I have been getting into powerlifting at my college gym.
I have a 4-day training split and I was wondering what would be the best thing to do on M,T,Th,& F.
Sorry for the newb and redundant question. I just need a little help from an experienced person. Thanks.
"Just get crazy strong and you will be dominant!" Oh, is that all I have to do? :)
I'm working on it.... thanks, man. I've got a bus tire DL upcoming, like your pic. It's to done w/ a 3" bar. Ug!
I use machines cause I can isolate the chest better without using too much of my secondary muscles. Im pretty sure How I train and how you train are a little different. Im going for more of the fullness and proportion of the muscle, then shear strength. Ive never even maxed on bench or squats. But I do like to lift heavy, just heavy for reps.
lol! Honestly, I dont have a real heavy bench. I just try to squeeze the weight up instead of using my tri's. I've been working out with anywhere between 315-405 for 8-10 slow reps. Depending on when I do my presses in my workout.
