I was 5 when I took my first boxing class, and I was hooked. After that, since the age of 6, I somehow always found someone to teach me some form of martial art for a year.
My dad worked out all the time, and when he showed me the July 1982 cover of Muscle and Fitness with Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian at his house, it changed me. I wanted to be big and strong like that. So, I started doing all kinds of exercises to get like Arnold.
Fast forward to the present. I'm still going strong with exercising and trying to stay in shape, with a few sidetracks. But now, I'm not letting anything stop me. I'm doing this for me.
Why I Love It:
I love being functionally fit, and the side benefit is looking fit. It also shows my son there's nothing wrong with taking care of yourself.
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm a fighter. I've always been a fighter. The few times when I have been at peace, I've been miserable. I want challenges, I crave them.
Making my body functionally fit to meet different physical and mental challenges is the ultimate rush.

This is what depression, injury, and sickness does to you.
Take a good look. In a few months, it's gonna be completely different!
Lots more work to be done, but I'm up for it. With the grappling contest coming in Mar-Apr, this pic gives me motivation to get my ass in gear. Literally, haha!
Doc says I can go back to grappling in a few more weeks, that my arm will be better. Thing is, it feels good now. I can do pushups again, but for more strenuous work, I should lay off the grappling til then.
My workout consists of bodyweight exercises. I do one Push movement (dips, push ups), one Pull movement (pull ups), 1 leg exercise (lunges, squats), 1 ab movement (vacuums, ab tightening).
I also do burpees. If you honestly want to lose weight fast and get your conditioning up, do burpees. To...
